A few weeks ago, the robot-operated inspection system that Tecnatom is supplying to one of its reference aerospace clients on the Asian continent, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (COMAC), passed its phase of acceptance testing.
The Factory Acceptance Tests were successfully completed at the Tecnatom facilities. The system will now be sent to the Chinese manufacturer’s composites research centre in Beijing.
The equipment in question has two robots for transmission (TTU) and pulse-echo ultrasonic inspection, and was ordered last year. This twin-robot system is capable of inspecting complex geometry sandwich and laminated parts in three dimensions and incorporates up to 14 axes, this guaranteeing complete control of the parts.
This is not the first time that China’s largest manufacturer of passenger aircraft places its trust in Tecnatom. In 2010 another ultrasonic inspection system, also based on industrial robots, for the control of metallic and composite parts was supplied through the company’s French subsidiary Metalscan for the COMAC plant in Shanghai.
