Part of the scope committed to with the British company GEN2, within the framework of a project for the supply of a generic PWR plant simulator, is the 3D modelling of the equipment most commonly found at nuclear facilities. The objective is to provide newcomers to the areas of maintenance, operation and engineering with a training tool allowing them to increase their knowledge of equipment components and operation.
With this aim in mind, several items of equipment have been modelled, selected on the basis of their interest for training and including different types of pumps, valves, motors and heat exchangers.
The models of this equipment, which must be interactive, allow for “inspection” by the users, with access to transversal sections and internal components.
Performance has been based on actual items of equipment existing at the Tecnatom training centre in Tarragona, which have been digitalised by means of scanning techniques. The modelling of the resulting data, incorporating the necessary textures and functionality, provides interactive models with a high degree of fidelity.
