Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi and Tecnatom have signed a contract for the supply of an automated inspection system based on the ultrasonic technique and comprising a robot mounted on a linear rail.
This automatic inspection equipment will allow for the application of pulse-echo techniques using phased array technology and will be used for the detection and characterisation of potential flaws in aircraft parts. The versatility of this robot-based configuration will make it possible to scan complex geometries with high levels of productivity.
Finmeccanica is an Italian high-tech industrial group that was restructured into four differentiated sectors in early 2016: helicopters, aeronautics, space and electronics and defence and security systems. Through this new structure the Italian firm is looking for greater operational flexibility with a view to increasing its competitiveness on the international markets.
