Tecnatom has been awarded the supply of two new robot-operated inspection systems for the Airbus factory in Nantes. The supply includes the NEO system, which is already in operation at the client’s facilities, and the Legacy system, a more highly evolved version of NEO.
The Legacy equipment consists of a latest generation TAURUS robot-operated system for the ultrasonic inspection of revolutionary parts made from carbon fibre composite materials by means of the transmission in air technique.
This technique is vital for the inspection of a special type of parts (acoustic panels), since these have a paper core that prevents water from being used for ultrasonic transmission, a circumstance that complicates the inspection technique.
This system architecture will allow the Airbus Nantes factory to increase productivity in the inspection of acoustic panels for the A380, A350, A320 NEO and new A330 NEO aircraft. The supply also allows Tecnatom to intensify its presence in the French aerospace sector, in which the company already has inspection equipment operating at the Corse and Daher-Socata factories.
